As an educator for over 20 years Cheryl knows that building a rapport with students through positive engagement allows for greater influence and participation in the learning process. When her son was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder she knew that a holistic approach to treatment would offer better outcomes for his recovery. She experienced the fragmented county health system whose contracted sites failed to offer much beyond medication. She worked as a Direct Support Person at a Residential Facility for people with Developmental Disabilities and witnessed the profound difference in the quality of life and outcomes of living in a 24/7 supported environment that engages residents in purposeful goals and where there is guaranteed funding. Her goal is to provide a therapeutic environment for those with serious mental illness.  She is licensed as a Certified Administrator for Residential facilities. Cheryl is a member of the Mothers Advocates for the SMI,LAC who co-wrote the Failures & Solutions Report of the LA County Mental Health system.
